Year in Review: Kindness and perseverance thrive despite pandemic

Unprecedented times. Flatten the curve. When encouraged to shut down and stay home to quell the spread of COVID-19, many in the Greater Cumberland County region didn’t abandon their drive to help others or achieve new goals. I ve selected about two dozen stories I wrote during 2020 that highlight how small acts of kindness made a big difference. The collection includes a businessman who settled outstanding school lunch debts, a deaf dog encouraging acceptance, and the Class of 2020 who joyfully embraced their non-traditional graduation celebrations. May their compassion, resilience, and perseverance serve as inspiration to us all in the new year.

These 16 restaurants are opening their doors in South Jersey

. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the restaurant industry; however, in spite of these challenges, new restaurants continue to spring up all over the South Jersey landscape. Whether you seek fresh sushi, artisan baked goods, vegan ice cream or a really great chicken sandwich, there is a new spot for you to try soon. Some eateries have changed locations, while others are completely new and still others have spun off into new food ventures. Here are some of the latest: Back Door Pizza, Cherry Hill  Farm & Fisherman Tavern in Cherry Hill has had to pivot more than once since the pandemic hit. They closed for a while; revamped their menu; upped their takeout game; experimented with market items; embraced to-go wine, beer and cocktails, and eventually welcomed outdoor guests.
