Local artist installs galaxy mural at Wood Library COURTESY OF BARBARA MCPHAIL A permanent ceramic tile art mural has been installed at Wood Library in Canandaigua.  Artist Barbara McPhail received a Community Arts Individual Artist Grant from New York State Council of the Arts, which is administered locally by Auburn Public Theater. After the library completed a major building addition, two windows remained in place, but offered no view to the outdoors as the new architectural structure lay behind them. McPhail had the idea to create ceramic tile murals to sit inside the window spaces. She applied and received an artist grant to create “Voyage in Time Through Literature,” which illustrates a Carl Sagan quote, To read is to voyage through time.
