Back York City fan in challenge for York Against Cancer

Bradley Saxton in action on the pitch FOOTBALL-mad Bradley Saxton is harnessing the power of the beautiful game to raise hundreds of pounds for York Against Cancer. York City supporter Bradley, 22, studies Sports Journalism at UCFB in Manchester, and has friends who form teams to take each other on while fundraising for good causes. His side have previously competed to support organisations such as the anti-racism movement Kick It Out, but when it fell to Bradley to pick a charity, he turned to an organisation offering cancer care, support and education to people in his home area. “I thought I would choose something closer to home and close to my heart,” said Bradley, from Clifton, York. “I have had a couple of family members who have suffered from different forms of cancer, one of them who s no longer with us today, so it is something that has touched my life.”

Brave York dad in bid to help York Against Cancer

David Chapman from Dringhouses at a previous charity run A DAD from York living with brain cancer is bidding to run a gruelling 10-mile race for a charity that helped him during his treatment. David Chapman, a father of two young girls, had surgery in December on a tumour that turned out to be malignant. Sadly, surgeons were unable to remove all of the growth and tests showed it was a grade three, life-limiting oligodendroglioma. Six weeks of radiotherapy at St James’s, Leeds, followed, with David being ferried there and back by York Against Cancer’s minibus. He was so grateful for the service that within days of completing his radiotherapy and while still facing six rounds of chemo, he started training for October’s Asda Foundation Yorkshire 10 Mile race to raise funds for the charity.
