Bitcoin’s 15 per cent tumble on Sunday capped a wild week of speculation in crypto markets punctuated by the vertiginous ascent of the one-time joke currency Dogecoin and crypto-exchange Coinbase’s $US86 billion Nasdaq listing.
Bloomberg reported the US Treasury declined to comment on the issue or say whether or not an investigation is under way.
Speculation exists that US and other regulators will introduce tighter rules for crypto exchanges around cross-border transaction reporting, threshold transaction reporting and suspicious transaction reporting, plus greater know-your-client obligations for wallet owners, to bring the sprawling sector into line with fiat-based money transfer and remittance businesses.

He says it is vital that we figure out how to conserve energy in these processes. But he doesn’t think that comes down to the individual. Professor Yang Xiang says there are two ways: “One is from the regulation point of view and the other is from the technology point of view.”
