MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â Minnesota State Mavericks fans have been in the stands for a little over a month now, and the university says itâs been going well.
A limited number of fans were allowed back into the facilities, starting with mostly family members.
Looking at one of the main winter sports still going strong into playoffs is menâs hockey. Players, family, friends and fans are excited to get some energy back in the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â The NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships are set to get underway in Aberdeen, South Dakota, next weekend, with wrestlers hoping to punch their tickets to the national competition coming up on March 12.
In whatâs been a strange year for sports, the Mavericks managed to get all six regular-season duals in without adjusting the schedule â which is a feat in itself considering the circumstances this season.
âAs usual, the credit goes to the guys. We only get to see them 2-3 hours a day. They have a life outside of here. We had the same lineup all year,â explained Head Coach Jim Makovsky. âInjury-wise, we didnât have a lot of injuries, we didnât have a lot of sickness, didnât have any positive COVID tests that disrupted us

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â Despite a weekend sweep against Ferris State over the weekend, the Minnesota State Mavericks menâs hockey team has fallen in the latest national rankings.
The Mavericks entered the series against Ferris State ranked second in the nation in last weekâs USCHO poll, but have dropped down a position to third in this weekâs poll.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â The Minnesota State Athletics Department announced Monday a change to the schedules of the menâs hockey and womenâs swimming and dividing teams.
The Mavericks menâs hockey team was originally scheduled to host Alabama Huntsville Thursday and Friday in Mankato, but positive COVID-19 tests inside the Chargersâ hockey program caused a postponement.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) â In Cade Borchardtâs debut season with the Minnesota State Mavericks, the Burnsville native registered four shots on goal and blocked two shots.
Now, in his sophomore season, he leads the team with 5 goals and 8 assists.
Borchardtâs production through nine games isnât one many predicted ahead of the season.
âI wish I could tell you that I knew it was going to happen,â Head Coach Mike Hastings said. âYou hope for freshmen to take a step as a sophomore. What Iâve seen is, thereâs a lot of times when you have a freshman that goes out and has a really good freshman season, has the proverbial tendency to potentially have a sophomore slump.
