Hartley Roundup: Hawks girls track and field team confident with move to Division I ThisWeek group After spending the last two seasons as the Hartley girls cross country coach, Jim McKay is excited about what he might be able to bring to the girls track and field program this spring.  McKay, who previously coached with the New World Track Club in Columbus, competed collegiately for the University of Washington and coached cross country at a high school in Seattle before relocating to central Ohio about two decades ago.  “I’ve been the head cross country coach (at Hartley) for two years and last year I was an assistant coach (for girls track), but the season only lasted three weeks,” McKay said. “This is kind of new in a lot of ways, but it’s actually been going really well. We have a lot of talent.”

He added nine assists and six rebounds. Jones also had seven rebounds. Max Klesmit had 12 points for Wofford (13-8, 10-5 Southern Conference). Morgan Safford added 10 points and six rebounds. Kaiden Rice had 22 points for the Bulldogs (11-9, 4-9). Hayden Brown added 17 points and eight rebounds, and Fletcher Abee had 11 points.

UTC Men Win 78-66 Over Wofford Thursday, February 11, 2021 The Chattanooga Mocs got a combined 42 points from its starting backcourt to claim a 78-66 Southern Conference win at Wofford Wednesday night. That included identical 21-point totals from David Jean-Baptiste and Malachi Smith along with a stout defensive effort. Stefan Kenic added 16 points in the festivities with Jean-Baptiste leading the board efforts with seven and Smith topping the assist charts with a game-high seven. The Mocs owned a seven-rebound advantage on the glass (34/27). Morgan Safford paced the Terriers with 18. It was all Mocs from the start. They took the lead 40 seconds into the game and never looked back. It reached 10 at the 14:16 mark with Smith’s triple making it 16-6. Twenty took a little longer. It was Jean-Baptiste’s turn with a floater in the lane which put him over the 1,200-point plateau for his career along with a 44-24 score.

Lackluster Mocs Fall With Second-Half Collapse Wofford Terriors Prevail 77-59 After Trailing By 13 At Halftime Saturday, January 16, 2021 - by John Hunt The Chattanooga Mocs played a great second half in Wednesday’s comeback win against Mercer, but they played equally as bad in the second half Saturday in a lopsided loss to Wofford. The Mocs played like they were capable in the opening 20 minutes when they built a 35-22 halftime lead, but the second half was a totally different story as the Terriors scorched the nets for 55 points to win with ease, 77-59. Wofford improves to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in SoCon play while Chattanooga falls to 11-4 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
