Dr Post wins the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup at Monmouth Park.
The Grade 1 Haskell Stakes undercard featured another 1 1/8 mile stakes race, the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup for 3-year-olds and up. Dr Post, who was fifth in the Grade 1 Met Mile last out, went wide on the final turn and rallied in the stretch to win the G3 stakes at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J.
Bal Harbour was fastest out of the gate, taking the lead over Justinthenickoftime and Ny Traffic, with Bankit in fourth. Joel Rosario and Dr Post stayed back in fifth as Bal Harbour posted the first quarter in :23.11 and the half-mile in :46.97, with Justinthenickoftime and Ny Traffic trailing in second and third. As the field of six headed into the final turn, Ny Traffic made his bid for the lead, with Bankit going with him. Rosario kept Dr Post back in fifth until they entered stretch, when he sent the Quality Road colt on the outside for a run at the lead.

After getting a win with Dr Post in the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup, trainer Todd Pletcher followed up that victory with another one in the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher with Graceful Princess. A daughter of 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, the bay 5-year-old mare improved on her fifth-place finish in her last start in the Obeah Stakes to win the G3 Molly Pitcher by three-quarters of a length at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, N.J.
Fourth out of the gate, Graceful Princess settled in behind Mrs. Danvers, Our Super Freak, and Bajan Girl early, Joel Rosario content to sit just off the early pace. Mrs. Danvers stretched her lead out to two lengths after the first half, the first four horses maintaining their positions through the backstretch.
