Kaitaia boxer Mea Motu, who is based in Auckland, will face Taranaki s Tania Reid for the NZ Professional Boxing Association s Lightweight title on March 26. For Motu, who trains out of Peach Boxing and is 5-0 as a professional, this will be the toughest and most important fight of her career to date especially since the pair have a history after having fought against one another as amateurs. Motu has several further fights scheduled for 2021, and the aim is to ensure that by the end of the year, she is ready to take on the world s best.

A rāhui was recently established prohibiting four species of marine life being collected around the entire island coastline. Tipa (scallops), kūtai ( mussels), kōura ( crayfish) and pāua (abalone) are restricted from collection from the shore and out to sea for one nautical mile for at least the next two years.

Kaitaia boxer Mea Motu will have her next fight this weekend shown on Spark Sport.

Unbeaten Kaitaia boxer Mea Motu has her next bout this weekend, to be screened on Spark Sport.
Featherweight Motu, with a 4-0 record, will feature in the co-main event of Peach Boxing s upcoming fight night, which will be held in Auckland on Saturday.
Spark Sport will cover the fight, marking the company s first entry into local boxing.
After this fight, Motu s next bout will be on March 27 against Tania Reid for a New Zealand title. She also hopes to fight in Kaitaia this year. The aim is for her to keep busy and gain ring experience so she can make her mark on the international stage in 2022.
