MORONGO VALLEY CSD TACKLES BUDGETS, SALARIES, AND MASK MANDATES TONIGHT

The Morongo Valley Community Services District board of directors will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight (May 19). Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the agenda… At tonight’s meeting, the board will discuss lifting mask mandates for visitors to Covington Park in accordance with recent CDC guideline updates. The board will also hold a public hearing on the district’s 2020-2021 fiscal year budget before reviewing and approving the budget, and review and approve the salary amount and vacation time for the district’s Fire Chief position. The board will also continue discussions on use of the fire department command vehicle when the fire chief is unavailable. MORONGO VALLEY CSD CANCELS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR THIS YEAR

The Morongo Valley Community Services District board of directors held its regular monthly meeting last night. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details… At last night’s meeting, the board discussed and approved the district’s 2019-2020 fiscal year audit. The report showed the district to be in a financially positive position despite slightly higher expenses than revenues for the year. The presenter advised the board to plan for potential shortfalls in the future and Director Johnny Tolbert suggested the board address recommendations on the audit at a future meeting. The board also set Tuesday, May 11 at 6 p.m. as the date and time for a town hall meeting to discuss the status of the CSD and fundraising for the Morongo Valley Fire Department.

No one was injured when a mobile home caught fire in Joshua Tree Wednesday morning. County Fire Battalion Chief Mike McClintock said crews from Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, and Yucca Mesa were called to the 6100 block of Valley View about 10:15 a.m. where they found smoke showing from a double-wide mobile home. Firefighters found a room and its contents on fire, with flames extending into the attic space above. The blaze was knocked down in about 15 minutes. McClintock said the home was under renovation at the time of the fire, and the cause appears to be accidental. A mobile home under renovation was damaged by fire in Joshua Tree Wednesday.

The Morongo Valley Community Services District board of directors will hold its regular board meeting tonight, April 21, beginning at 6 p.m. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the agenda… At tonight’s meeting, the board will review and approve the district’s 2019-2020 fiscal year audit, discuss holding a town hall meeting regarding donations for the Morongo Valley Fire Department, approve a day to hold a public workshop budget, hear updates on progress for the district’s 2021 softball season, and approve waiving the Chuck Osborne volunteer-of-the-year award for 2020 due to COVID-19 shutting down Covington Park. The meeting will be held via Zoom.
