But when the threat is gone, what changes are here to stay? Businesses and communities are always looking for positive changes and ways to make life easier and more enjoyable. There’s a saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention” and when COVID-19 hit, the necessity was to survive. Whether it was your business, your city or your way of life and what it forced people to do was come up with creative ways to get by. Some of those, once the masks are gone and we are through this pandemic, are going to stick around because they showed things can be done better and more efficient.

Trattoria Stella Holds Stella for Spokes to Support Norte

9 & 10 News January 31, 2021 The restaurant wanted to put together a fundraiser to help add to Norte’s Youth Scholarship Fund. Norte executive director, Ty Schmidt says, “Norte’s Youth Scholarship Fund is an important part of our strategy to make sure that kids can participate not matter their families’ means and so were trying to raise $30,000 this year to make sure that happens. Stella’s got us off to a great start.” Chef Myles Anton at Stella has given back to Norte before, but this year he wanted to do something special. Schmidt says, “Stella for Spokes is the second annual time that Stella has benefited Norte and our Youth Scholarship fund. Last year was polenta, this year is lasagna and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Norte Switches Gears for Annual Dinner, Creates Virtual Advocacy Academy & Encourages Winter Walk Wednesdays

9 & 10 News January 25, 2021 Like most businesses across northern Michigan, Norte has had to pivot and change gears when it comes to in-person events. That includes their annual Stella for Spokes dinner that supports the organization with a partnership with Trattoria Stella and Chef Myles Anton in Traverse City. Norte has also changed their annual advocacy academy to virtual online sessions.  The program enables people to have a voice when it comes to safety in their community whether that be enhancing crosswalks or widening bike lanes.
