Hwange residents to make way for mega power project

Hwange thermal power expansion project run by the Hwange Electricity Supply Company (Hesco) is expected to be complete by 2022, eight months behind the initial plan prior to the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A power transmission line corridor is currently being cleared from Hwange to Insukamini, Bulawayo.
Hesco is a special purpose company, which is a joint venture of the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) and Sino Hydro Mauritius with 64% and 36% shares respectively.
The US$1,5 billion power project will entail displacements of about 480 households of which 400 will be from the Ingagula suburb in Hwange due to the direct health hazards of gas emissions and dust from the plant,

The Mnangagwa family, involved in business in various sectors of the economy, particularly since his ascendancy through a military coup in 2017, later legitimised via a disputed 2018 election, clashed with Mohadi over a dry port project in Beitbridge and a gold mine in Penhalonga where politicians and their cronies have invaded the area, turning it into a vast artisanal mining field.

MUTASA SOUTH: Four Chinese nationals working under the controversial Zhong Jian mining company sustained severe injuries this week after they were attacked by artisanal gold miners over mining rights dispute.
The incident occurred at Premier Estates, a gold-rich area in Mutasa.
One of the Chinese is reported to have sustained broken ribs while the other one lost a finger as he tried to block his face from a shovel attack.
The irate artisanal miners, popularly known as Makorokoza, are reported to have used an assortment of mining tools including crowbars, picks and shovels to attack the Chinese nationals.
