Centre County YMCA to Host Food Distribution in Penns Valley

The YMCA of Centre County’s Anti-Hunger Program will host its next Farmers to Families food distribution on Wednesday afternoon in Spring Mills. The drive-through event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at Penns Valley Area High School, 4545 Penns Valley Road. Vehicles are not permitted on the school property until buses have departed. Each box of free food contains fresh meat, cheese, fruit, milk and more. No registration is required. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers to Families program purchases food from farmers across the country who are struggling to sell what they produce during the COVID-19 pandemic and makes it available to be distributed for free.

State College Borough Council approves amendments regulating testing, appointment of police officers

The State College Borough Council approved amendments for regulations governing testing and appointment of police officers, as well as other consent items, during its meeting Monday night.  These changes, such as raising the testing age and required test score, are meant to increase the overall number and diversity of qualified candidates who are eligible for testing and appointment as police officers. Following this, the council voted to have a hearing on June 7 to discuss the short-term rental license ordinance. The purpose of this ordinance is to ensure the borough is aware of the location of short-term rental activity in order to confirm the use complies with zoning regulations, taxes, and provides contract information in the event that nuisance property issues arise.

Philipsburg Christmas Story

Philipsburg Christmas Story 1:47 am A true Christmas story in Philipsburg on Sunday, with the packaging of Holiday Meals, and special deliveries made by Santa Claus himself. We tagged along with the group to help spread some Holiday Cheer. The YMCA was practically Santa’s Workshop on Sunday. Volunteers packed, stacked, and shipped over 300 boxes of Holiday foods to those in need across Centre County. With people struggling across the Country, the need for help is at an all-time high to make sure everyone has a Merry Christmas from beginning to end. The YMCA of Centre County’s Anti-Hunger Director Mel Curtis and crew had a busy weekend. On Saturday they packed over 500 presents for children in the Christmas Program, and on Sunday the packed school backpacks with food and over 300 blessings in a box, filled with Holiday meals.
