Victoria is bracing for a night of wild weather with damaging winds of 100km/h or more and heavy rainfall forecast for parts of the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued warnings for damaging winds, floods and marine winds for much of the state plus blizzard conditions on the alpine peaks with the storms predicted to be at their worse about 1am on Thursday.
The central and eastern parts of Melbourne face winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100km/h while parts of the central, north-central and north-east districts have also received a warning for heavy rainfall with Melbourne, Bendigo, Seymour, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong and Traralgon listed in the rainfall message.

A SEVERE Weather Warning for damaging, locally destructive winds was issued on Wednesday night for parts of the state including the Latrobe Valley.
The latest advice from the Bureau of Meteorology at 10.38pm, covers an area for people in Central, North Central, West and South Gippsland, and parts of the South West, Northern Country, North East and Wimmera Forecast Districts.
A low pressure system off the southern NSW coast is directing a strong south to southeasterly flow over Victoria.
A separate Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is also current for West and South Gippsland and parts of Central, North Central and North East Forecast Districts.

Leogate Estate has been awarded a Gold Medal at the 2021 International Wine Challenge in London for its 2019 Leogate Estate Reserve Western Slopes Hunter Valley Shiraz.
The International Wine Challenge is the world’s most influential, impartial, and rigorously judged wine competition across the globe. Where thousands of wines from over 50 countries are judged by a panel of international wine experts in a rigorous two-week blind tasting, in London, this April.
This competition is very close to me, as it was the pivotal point for Leogate Estate Wines and my winemaking career when our 2011 Leogate Estate ‘The Basin’ Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz took out the prestigious ‘James Rogers Trophy’ for the Best Wine in its First Year of Production at the 2014 IWC Competition, says Senior Winemaker and Director, Mark Woods.
