The Maine CDC reports 292 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. Governor Mills announced on Friday that the indoor mask requirement for fully vaccinated people will be dropped on May 24th, while it’s suggested that people who have not received the vaccine still wear face coverings. The Maine Department of Education will make its own ruling about face coverings in schools.

A member of the Bangor School Committee, who is also the treasurer for Penobscot County, is facing charges for allegedly stalking a woman. John Hiatt is accused of getting angry at his former friend and taking over her social media account, without her permission. He’s charged with a felony charge of invasion of computer privacy, harassment, and stalking. ....

The Maine CDC reports 296 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. So far, 1,285,764 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
Governor Janet Mills will lift capacity restrictions for indoor and outdoor gatherings, effective May 24th, as well as physical distancing guidelines, except in indoor settings like restaurants and bars that require face coverings to be removed. The mask directive for indoor public spaces will remain in place. Mills says the large percentage of adults who have been vaccinated prompted the acceleration of the Moving Maine Forward plan.

A 20-year-old Brewer woman has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming she was sexually abused, between the ages of 13 and 15, by a man working as an athletic trainer at Brewer High School. The BDN reports the lawsuit lists multiple defendants, including the trainer, the Brewer School Department, and an unidentified police officer, among others. ....
