On June 3, 1986, that “lil’ ol’ band from Texas” returned to Portland for their 5th appearance at the Cumberland County Civic Center. ZZ Top brought along their futuristic melding of blues guitar and dance beats to the stage for the first of two sold-out nights.
With Van Halen as the final Artist of the Day this month on WBLM, we thought it would be good for us Blimpsters to recall all the the amazing times they've played Maine live in concert.
The other day, I was pawing through one of my desk drawers searching for something to write with. I didn t find a pen, but I did come across a real treasure. This is a personal note from Gregg Allman sent to legendary WBLM air personality José Diaz. It was written about 34 years ago.
The type-written Thank-You message was in response to the Blimp s support of the Gregg Allman Band album, I m No Angel . The note closes with Kindest regards and is hand-signed by the man, himself.
