In a poem personal yet universal, Maine poet unites At the second inaugural of President Barack Obama, Richard Blanco of Bethel follows in the footsteps of Robert Frost and Maya Angelou, championing the American experience. Share The poem that was read aloud Monday at President Obama’s second inauguration was deeply personal to the Maine poet who wrote it, scholars said, but its theme was universal: This country offers tremendous possibility, yet its real greatness stems from the unity of its citizenry. Richard Blanco, a little-known poet from Bethel in western Maine, was elevated to the national stage when he was selected to be Obama’s inaugural poet. He is only the fifth poet to compose an original piece for an inauguration.

Liberty, ME 04949 The Davistown Museum is a tool, art, and regional history museum with two physical locations in Maine and a website, rich with resources. Its main building is in Liberty, while its office and a sculpture garden are in Hulls Cove (Bar Harbor). The primary mission of the museum is the recovery, display, and interpretation of hand tools used in Maine and New England s maritime culture. It serves as an important clearinghouse for information on the history of hand tools and their roles in the early industries of Maine and New England and offers an extensive exhibit of hand tools in Liberty and online. The Museum also provides a forum for contemporary Maine artists to exhibit their work, creating a unique environment that juxtaposes tools, as both historical and sculptural objects, with a wide diversity of art forms. Alfredo Gisholt: Rituals of Perception

February 20 - May 1, 2021 From the gallery: “Deborah Colton Gallery is pleased to present Rituals of Perception, an exhibition featuring paintings and works on paper by Alfredo Gisholt. This grand solo exhibition encompasses the entire gallery. The exhibition can be seen online through the gallery’s Viewing Room. Installation and artwork images can be seen through the gallery’s Virtual Slide Show and website. A Virtual Artist Talk and Walking Tour will take place during the exhibition. Questions or interest in specific artworks can be addressed by email, phone or “By Appointment” at Deborah Colton Gallery. The Gallery hours remain Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. The exhibition is in conjunction with Forma 110 – Mariana Valdes Art Promotion.
