LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - The city of Lawton will be holding their second Citizens Academy in July.
The Citizens Academy is a free, interactive program meant to to familiarize citizens with the roles, services and operation that comprise the Lawton City Government.
The course spans 14 weeks, held for two hours weekly at City Hall, and includes site visits, as well as overviews of every major department within the City of Lawton.
“It is important that we take advantage of every opportunity to educate our citizens on how their tax dollars are being spent,” City Manager Michael Cleghorn said. “We are incredibly excited to start this program back up.”

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Today is the start of a new chapter for some City of Lawton employees as they start work in the newly finished Public Safety Facility.
Lawton City Manager, Michael Cleghorn, said the departments that will operate out of the building include the Lawton Police Department, Fire Station 1, City Jail and Municipal Courts.
He said most department employees have already moved in but some will do so this week and that everyone, except for jail employees, are expected to be fully relocated by May 14th when the city will host a grand opening of the facility for residents. That grand opening will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Cleghorn said masks must be worn to attend.

The tours will be offered on a limited basis following a closed ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility on March 16, 2021.
We have been watching the progress for months. From the steel beams, to the Red Fire Bays, to the Landscaping, each step has us wandering just what this new building will look like inside! Well, it's nearly time to find out!
