The longtime chief of pathology and medicine service at the Overton Brooks VA Hospital is retiring.
Dr. Aubrey Lurie has worked for the hospital for 33 years and for Barksdale Air Force Base since the early 2000s. Lurie emigrated from South Africa to Birmingham, Alabama, in the 1970s. He received his M.D. from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and also attended the University of Oxford.
Fellow employees recognized Lurie in a retirement ceremony Wednesday at Overton Brooks. They spoke about Lurie’s character and his work.
Chief medical technologist Michael Salinas has worked with Lurie for 20 years. As lab manager, he leads teams that conduct tests in the hospital.
