Mikayla Harvey, 22, will lead Canyon SRAM Racing in the women s Giro d Italia, which starts in northern Italy tonight (Friday). It s so special to be given this role and I can t wait to go out there and make all my teammates and my team proud. I m a little nervous but super excited at the same time, Harvey said. It is a little crazy being the youngest one [in the team] but then at the same time it s also really nice knowing I ve got so many experienced girls to help and guide me.
Next year’s Tour de France Femmes will be held over eight stages, but Fisher-Black said it was a step in the right direction for women’s cycling to have its own Tour de France for riders to aspire to every year. The men’s Grand Tours, the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana are all contested over 21 stages.

We’ve always had La Course, which is effectively the women’s event of the Tour de France, but as we were only given a one-day race, it felt we were always on the side and the women’s part didn’t matter that much,” Fisher-Black said.
