North-South Freeway expected to be complete by late 2029

Updated: 5:29 PM PDT May 25, 2021 Right now, you can finally see physical construction of what the Washington State Department of Transportation has dubbed the North Spokane Corridor project throughout Northeast Spokane. To some drivers, of course, the closed roads and detours are an annoyance. But to many others, it’s a sign of long-awaited progress. I’m just glad that they’re trying, that they’re going in that direction. And I don’t want to see anything stop or delay it, funding or anything else, Sherri Davey, owner of Heavenly Special Teas in Hillyard said. We’re growing so fast. We’re going to have commuters. And we don’t need the congestion in downtown, we don’t need the congestion going through Spokane. We need a freeway. So it’s about time is all I can say, and I wish they would hurry!”

Lawmakers voice support for downtown stadium, promise funds to aid Civic Theatre

KXLY May 5, 2021 3:57 PM Connor Sarles Updated: Stefan Dreisbach-Williams//Wikimedia Commons SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane representatives penned a letter to the Spokane Public Schools board and Civic Theatre promising to secure state funding to help soundproof the 50-year-old theater, if the downtown stadium proposal is approved. The school board will vote on the stadium Wednesday evening. Of the controversies with the proposed location, one of the larger ones was the Spokane Civic Theatre, which would be forced to soundproof its facilities if big sports events were going on at the downtown stadium. With respect to this, Spokane Public Schools previously negotiated with the Downtown Spokane Partnership to give the Civic priority parking and noise mitigation in the form of soundproofing.

WA Legislature passes $59B two-year budget; How City of Spokane is putting that money to use

WA Legislature passes $59B two-year budget; How City of Spokane is putting that money to use April 26, 2021 4:21 PM Connor Sarles SPOKANE, Wash. The Washington Legislature adjourned Sunday after passing a two-year budget of $59 billion. Spokane gets just over $12 million of that, which the City Council has divvied up among local organizations. “City Council and its legislative team demonstrated yet again that a strategic investment by the City to influence the Legislature can reap major dividends in Spokane projects that help everyday people,” said City Council President Breean Beggs. “I am grateful for the work of Senator Andy Billig, Representative Timm Ormsby, and Representative Marcus Riccelli for the majority of these investments and a special thanks to Representative Mike Volz for the investment in Meadowglen Park.”
