Carencro Council Refuses to Amend Obscenity Law for Adult Store
The Carencro City Council is refusing to change its obscenity ordinance to allow an adult novelty shop to operate.
The owners of Crave Romance Boutique say the ordinance is overly vague and presents a First Amendment issue, but residents say the council is making the right decision.
“I want to be a good neighbor here in Carencro, Mike Menard, the owner of Crave Romance Boutique, told the Carencro City Council on Monday night.
He said the problems he’s facing stem from another business that once operated in the city.

A couple opening their third adult shop is facing some push-back from the city of Carencro.
The owners of Crave Romance Boutique, Mike and Jolene Menard, say theyâve been in business for more than 20 years, and theyâve helped a lot of people with their needs along the way.
âWe crave food, we crave love, we crave intimacy,â said Mike Menard, âBut a craving like that, you gotta go take care of it.â
Menard says his stores were shut down during the pandemic, but after reopening, business is buzzing.
The new location at 1630 Store St. is about triple the size of the current location, said Vertefeuille, and the move is fuelled by the best year Moe’s has had since opening five years ago. Despite the pandemic, the owner said, Moe’s has been busy. “People are nesting. They can’t travel, so they are spending that extra cash on making their homes comfortable,” Vertefeuille said Friday. “Even though it was a rough year in so many ways, it was also one of the best. I’ve connected to my community more than ever before. There’s a sense that people, both customers and neighbours, have become more authentic and compassionate.”
