SIDNEY Sidney Police Officer Nathan Wisniewski has been named Sidney Police Department’s 2021 Officer of the Year.
Mayor Mike Barhorst also proclaimed May 9-15, 2021, to be Police Week in the city of Sidney during the Monday evening hybrid-style Sidney City Council meeting.
Police Chief Will Balling presented Wisniewski with the Officer of the Year honor in conjunction with the handing out life saving awards to Wisniewski and six other officers and two civilians ....

Council hears committee’s NTVs recommendation

SIDNEY The issue of non-traditional vehicles (NTVs) on Sidney roadways was discussed during Sidney City Council’s virtual workshop session Monday.
Randy Rose, chairman of the Non-Traditional Vehicle Use Ad Hoc Committee, presented the committee’s recommendation on the use of NTVs on city streets.
Currently, low speed, non-traditional vehicles are not permitted to operate on Sidney city streets. Violators will be cited by Sidney Police as of May 1, which was when the warning period ended.
The Ad Hoc Committee reviewed and reworked tabled ordinance A-3020 that Police Chief Will Balling first presented to City Council in July 2020. ....

Committee wraps up report on non-traditional vehicles

SIDNEY After a series of somewhat contentious meetings, the Non-Traditional Vehicle Use Ad Hoc Committee wrapped up its study Thursday morning and came to a recommendation on the use of golf carts and other non-traditional vehicles (NTVs) for Sidney city roadways. A report on the committee’s recommendation will be presented to the Sidney City Council Monday evening.
Currently, low speed, non-traditional vehicles are not permitted to operate on Sidney city streets. Violators will begin to be cited by Sidney Police starting May 1.
The purpose of the committee’s final teleconference meeting was to complete a review of ordinance A-3020 on the use of NTVs on city streets, which City Council tabled at its March 22 meeting. ....

SIDNEY Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler was honored Monday by Sidney Mayor Mike Barhorst for his contributions helping to vaccinate local residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Mayor’s Proclamation was presented to Stahler at the local CVS Pharmacy, just as he finished vaccinating local resident Shannon Retterer and just before taking his thirty-minute break for lunch.
“Mayor Stahler spent his career as a licensed pharmacist,” Barhorst said in a press release, “and came out of retirement to assist in vaccinating residents not just in Sidney, but in several communities in the Miami Valley. Monday was his last official day as a pharmacist, and I thought it only proper to honor him for his service.” ....
