Lincoln, Neb. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Rural Prosperity Nebraska initiative, along with six Nebraska economic development and Chamber of Commerce organizations, has received more than $400,000 in funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, administered by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to help businesses and communities respond to coronavirus.

Valentine businesses have the opportunity to learn how digital media can benefit their business. The digital toolbox classes from Mid Plains Community College are still available through this May. Businesses that sign up before the end of February, can be reimbursed for the cost of the classes through Valentine Economic Development. Class topics will include:creating a website, email marketing, google products, social media strategies and brand identity. Classes are self paced and delivered to the business email in a video format. Each one hour lecture style class will cost $45 or three classes for $119. Each class can be viewed at anytime and as many times as you like until the end of May.
The Sparks Spurs Chapter of Cowboy Fast Draw Association will host the annual Heart City Jackpot this weekend at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine.
Action will begin at 9am Saturday and Sunday mornings and the public is invited to stop by to observe the contest. Each year about 30 to 40 competitors from Nebraska, South Dakota and the Kansas area gather for a friendly gunfight in Valentine. Competitors use real 45 caliber pistols, shooting wax bullets at targets 21 feet away. The fastest times will win in the 3 out of 5 shot event. One of the interesting parts of the event, is the old west clothing worn by many competitors during the contest.
