JOHNSTOWN Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino on Monday asked county legislators to reimburse the village of Dolgeville about $10,000 for training for a past village officer his department might hire.
The move was one of several sheriff’s office personnel items to come before the Board of Supervisors’ Public Safety Committee.
Giardino sought and received committee permission to reimburse Dolgeville and its police department $9,657 for training related to the possible hiring of a certified former Dolgeville police officer. The full board will vote Feb. 8 on the proposed resolution.
The sheriff said his department has offered a permanent deputy sheriff position to the former officer. He said state General Municipal Law has a provision that allows municipalities such as Dolgeville to seek reimbursement for a portion of the officer’s previous training.
