The off-Broadway revival of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken s
Little Shop of Horrors will resume performances at the Westside Theatre on Tuesday, September 21. Tickets are now on sale through January 2.
Directed by Michael Mayer, the critically acclaimed revival opened in October 2019 with a cast led by Jonathan Groff, Tammy Blanchard, and Christian Borle. Full casting will be announced in the coming months.
The creative team includes choreographer Ellenore Scott, scenic designer Julian Crouch, lighting designer Bradley King, costume designer Tom Broecker, sound designer Jessica Paz, puppet designer Nicholas Mahon, puppets by Monkey Boys Productions, and music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger Will Van Dyke.

Little Shop of Horrors follows Seymour, a florist who falls in love with his co-worker Audrey. Their relationship quickly escalates into a battle for the human race, when Seymour discovers a human-eating plant, affectionately named Audrey II. Michael Mayer directs the off-Broadway production, with an original book, music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
Casting for
Little Shop of Horrors’ includes Jeremy Jordan as Seymour, who was previously scheduled to join the company before Covid forced theatres shut in March 2020. COHOES, N.Y. â When asked why âI Love You, Youâre Perfect, Now Changeâ has remained popular for 25 years, Michael LoPorto, the director of the comic-musical revue that opens at Cohoes Music Hall tomorrow night, laughs and answers, âIt has no subtext.â
During our telephone interview, he explained that the show, produced by Playhouse Stage, is pure fun as it charts the frustrations of people struggling to learn about love. There are about 20 scenes, almost all with music. The first act is about dating, falling in love and marrying the ideal mate. The second act is about staying in love after both parties discover there is no such thing as the ideal mate.
