John Barnes, of Endicott, enjoys seeing the young softball players he coaches hit a home run, strike out a batter or grab a fly ball.
“When they succeed, a part of you has succeeded,” he said. “You can share in their moments of glory.”
That’s why Barnes has spent the past 15 years coaching all levels of softball and baseball as part of the Union-Endicott Little League. He’s also served on the Union-Endicott Little League Board and as the head coach and president of a travel softball team, Eyota.
“He’s one of our top volunteers,” said Brian Salati, the co-president of Union-Endicott Little League, of Barnes. “He’s very committed. He’s been an inspiration to the kids.”
The Children s Home has rescheduled their news conference for tomorrow morning at 9:30a and will make some major announcements regard their programs and services.
One year ago, the Children’s Home agreed to purchase the former Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome and turn it into the Southern Tier Community Center, they official purchased the building this past May.
The intent was to continue its support of before and after school age child care programs for students located in the Maine Endwell and Union Endicott school districts.

When the pandemic hit the Southern Tier Community Center (STCC) expended its hours to include a full day on site learning facility for school age children, along with numerous updates have been made to the structure along with programming advancements.
