The federal government is contributing more than $74,000 to install “shade sails” to cover a sunny section of the park behind Ottawa’s Plant Recreation Centre in a move administrators say will provide more outdoor activities for local seniors.
Federal Infrastructure Minister and Ottawa Centre MP Catherine McKenna made the funding announcement during a virtual event Monday morning, alongside Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and representatives from the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Plant Pool Recreation Association (PPRA), a group that co-ordinates recreational opportunities at the namesake facility on Preston Street.
