File photo: Andrew Goff As it embarks on a survey about whether voters will support another bond for school facilities, Del Norte Unified School District may also conduct a study to determine whether its current developer mitigation fees should change. Intended to offset the cost of new classrooms or schools due to an increase in student enrollment, those fees have been 27 cents per square foot for a commercial development and $1.65 per square-foot for residential development in Del Norte County since the 1994-95 fiscal year, according to Jeff Napier, DNUSD’s assistant superintendent of business. ....

File photo: Jessica Cejnar Though they acknowledged that most parents are focused on the upcoming school year, Del Norte Unified officials propose to restructure its four in-town elementary campuses so that half serve transitional kindergarten through second-grade students and the other half house third- through fifth-grade students. Included in DNUSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan for the 2021-22; 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, the proposal would impact Joe Hamilton, Mary Peacock, Bess Maxwell and Pine Grove elementary schools, Superintendent Jeff Harris told trustees at a special meeting Thursday. ....
