SCHENECTADY The influence that Guyanese student-athletes have had on Schenectady High School sports teams over the past two decades is undeniable.
“Probably every program has been impacted in some way,” high school athletic director Steve Boynton said. “Schenectady welcomed them. The high school welcomed them. They have definitely been an asset to the athletic department.”
Many Guyanese student-athletes have helped fill out high school team rosters and provided needed depth, and some have played key starting roles. Others have stepped ahead to lead their respective teams, and a select few, such as distance runner Shazim Permaul, have left a lasting mark.

George Mason University’s research and education center focused on government contracting has added 13 new members to its advisory board along with 13 additions to the affiliated faculty roster.
The Center for Government Contracting made the board appointments to bring in a full range of industry leaders from GovCon companies of all sizes that work with federal agencies or support other contractors, GMU said March 10.
One of those new board appointments comes directly form the Defense Department in John Tenaglia, principal director of defense contracting and pricing in the office of DOD’s undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment.

Fighting toms and feral kittens could run rampant due to delays and cancellations to procedures to neuter pets during the pandemic.
Vets were told soon after the first lockdown was imposed that they can castrate animals if they deem it necessary for population control reasons.

But Mary Knott, who runs Thanet charity Cats in Crisis, has been inundated with calls from distressed owners who have been unable to get their felines snipped or had appointments pushed back.
