From Berkshire theater programs to economic development in the North Quabbin region, Massachusetts House lawmakers approved millions more in tourism spending in the fiscal 2022 budget in hopes of revitalizing the sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The House unanimously approved a $47.7 billion budget around 2:30 a.m. Thursday after hours of negotiations, boosting spending for economic development, mental health services and education.
“This budget meets the needs of our residents who have endured an unprecedented level of health and economic challenges over the past year,” Speaker Ron Mariano, a Quincy Democrat, said in a statement after the vote early Thursday. ....
