National Day of Prayer May 6 in Greenville

GREENVILLE The 2021 National Day of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 6, and the Greater Greenville Ministerial Association will once again be sponsoring a local observance in cooperation with the mayor’s office. The service will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 202 W. Fourth Street in Greenville at 12 noon. The theme will be “Lord, pour out your life, love and liberty” based upon II Corinthians 3:17.
This years’ local service will include the American Legion Color Guard, praise music by Joseph Helfrich and the National Anthem performed by 4th-to-6th grade students from the Decolores Montessori School. Prayers will be offered up by various leaders in our country, state and community. Greenville Mayor Steve Willman was joined by a group of students from Greenville Schools for the signing of a proclamation dedicating the week of April 5 through 9 as “We are the Majority Week.”

GREENVILLE Greenville Mayor Steve Willman signed a proclamation on Friday, April 2 dedicating the week of April 5 through 9 as “We are the Majority Week,” in Greenville. The proclamation encourages all citizens to join together in learning more about “the importance of living a positive, healthy lifestyle for a vibrant, safe, and secure community.”
A number of students from the Greenville branch of “We are the Majority” were in attendance for the signing. Students of all ages were able to meet the mayor and share their ideas for how they are working to influence their peers to stay drug, tobacco, and alcohol free.

GREENVILLE The Greenville community lost one of its civic leaders Jan. 13, when Elizabeth “Dori” Howdieshell passed away at Miami Valley Hospital due to complications with COVID-19. She was 67 years old.
Howdieshell was first elected to Greenville City Council in 2015, and was reelected for a second term in 2019. Prior to serving on council, she was the owner and operator of Tropical Isle Tanning Salon at 619 South Broadway in Greenville, a business she ran for 25 years. Howdieshell also worked as a Harbor Freight associate for four years.
