It is a new year, there is a new administration in place, but there is one old problem: controlling the deadly coronavirus, a pandemic that has taken the lives of over 410,000 Americans, nearly 14,000 Massachusetts residents, and 104 Waltham residents.
Waltham remains in a red zone, designated as a high risk community, regarding the spread of the coronavirus. As of Jan. 21 the city had 4,018 positive cases, 3,382 recovered cases, and 104 deaths from the disease.
There have been a total of 236 cases of COVID-19 in the Waltham Public School district since Oct. 9, 2020.
But there is hope in sight: vaccines are coming.
When Schenectady s annual Holiday Parade was canceled before Thanksgiving, the city decided to hold a parade to honor first responders and it will be held this week. Here are the details. According to News 10 ABC, Santa Claus and first responder vehicles will be part of the First Responders Holiday Parade in Schenectady. There will be a host of decked out first responder vehicles along a route mapped out through the city with holiday music and the big guy himself. It will all happen on Tuesday, December 15th.
Assistant Fire Cheif Don Mareno said this of the decision to have a holiday parade:
