During the presidential campaign, then candidate Rodrigo Duterte promised to jet-ski to the West Philippine Sea to plant the Philippine flag and stake Philippine jurisdiction over the disputed territory. His spokesman would later claim that the campaign promise was meant to be a joke.
The joke is on us. China not only built fortifications in the West Philippine Sea from where they harass Filipino fishermen returning to their old fishing grounds but also deployed vessels threateningly close to our country. The act is an obvious insult to our sovereignty, a fact that did not escape the attention of our foreign affairs secretary.

A PRESENTATION by representatives of DPWH to the Cebu City Council of the plan to solve the flooding caused by the Mambaling underpass revived the anger of a number of councilors over the national agency s handling of the almost P800 million project.
Vice Mayor Mike Rama, Sanggunian presiding officer, who also comes from the south district, in the Wednesday, April 28, regular session, blasted the N. Bacalso Ave. tunnel project as stupid because, he said, there was no need for it as there was no traffic problem or drainage problem before the underpass was built.

SITUATION ON COVID SPIKE. Retired general Melquiades Feliciano, Visayas chief implementer of the national task force against Covid-19, told the Cebu City Council Wednesday, February 3, that the increase to double-digit figures in positive cases in the city in January, from single-digit numbers in December, were caused by:
(a) Christmas activities and other mass gatherings of people and relaxed enforcement of health protocols during the holidays;
