Andy Beshear and local leaders got an aerial view of the flood damage in Calloway County this morning aboard a U.S. Army helicopter with Kentucky National Guardsmen. During a media briefing following the tour, Beshear assured county and city officials the state will provide support. Beshear complimented Judge-Executive Kenny Imes’ quick response with the county’s state of emergency declaration. He said his office received state of emergency declarations from more than 29 counties and seven cities, and the first one he saw was from Calloway County.
“In Murray, your officials were reacting and they knew the seriousness of the situation that we were facing,” Beshear said. “We ve got a lot of structural damage here in Murray but to our knowledge, we don t have one lost life. Panelists included Chief Medical Officer Bob Hughes, CEO of Murray Calloway County Hospital Jerry Penner, Executive Advisor at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Mark Carter, Mayor Bob Rogers and history professor James Humphries. In the forum, Carter said as of Monday, Feb. 1, a total of 362,271 people have been vaccinated in Kentucky with 86 percent of the first doses received administered. Carter said they were approaching Gov. Andy Beshear’s goal of having 90 percent of the doses received into arms within seven days. ....
MURRAY â Even though some people in Murray and Calloway County are now receiving a vaccine intended to fight COVID-19, the disease still holds a firm grip. That was evident Tuesday afternoon, because instead of gathering as a group at Murray City Hall, the incoming members of the Murray City Council had their swearing-in ceremony via virtual communication. The council had returned to in-person meetings for a few months after going to virtual shortly after the pandemic entered Murray and Calloway County in March, but went back to virtual in November after a major surge of cases locally. âIâm thinking this is going to be the wave of the future for a while,â said Councilman Burton Young, who was among those raising his right hand at the direction of Mayor Bob Rogers, who directed the ceremony from the City Council Chambers inside City Hall while staring at a computer screen full of squares, inside which were images of the council members. ....
