Big crowd turns out for Easter Experience in Newcomerstown

NEWCOMERSTOWN When an event draws enough people to create a traffic jam, it’s a success.  And that was what the Easter Experience hosted by the Home Plate Project became on Saturday, March 27, at Cy Young Park. The free event by the community ministry program included free food, prizes (including bicycles and Easter baskets), and thousands of Easter eggs. A crowd estimated at over 1,000 jammed into Cy Young Park with plenty of children, parents and grandparents coming to enjoy a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Traffic was backed up to College Street prior to the event and cars were parked everywhere at the park. One of those attending was almost in awe when they arrived, saying, “I didn’t know there were this many people in Newcomerstown.”

Newcomerstown Village Council

KEY ACTION Village officials recognized issues affecting village employees because of COVID-19 when council met. Mayor Pat Cadle reviewed some of those issues with council members and Heather Stein-Wells asked if the village could help employees who don’t have sick time but are off work because of COVID-19 or other circumstances because of the virus. Currently, employees must take sick time if they are off work because of circumstances relating to COVID-19 but not all employees have sick time. In other action: • David Shepherd, chairperson of the building and grounds committee, reported the village is one step closer to sending out proposals for design and construction at the new administration building (formerly Systems III) on Bridge Street.
