CBS News' Ted Koppel eyeing 'Mayberry' visit

April 16, 2021 One of the big guns at CBS News could be heading to Mount Airy soon for a special report by the television network on this city’s Mayberry connection and its identification with recent national events. This concerns a project involving longtime correspondent Ted Koppel which has been in the works for months. It is targeted for “CBS News Sunday Morning,” a news magazine program on the air for more than 40 years. Dustin Stephens, a producer for that show, said in January that its focus on “Mayberry” is part of the TV network’s ongoing coverage of a unique period for the nation.

The complete article can be found at AlabamaNewsCenter.com. By Jeremy Henderson Alabama Living All of a sudden, Allan Newsome’s wife, Jan, will point at him: “There – you’re doing it right now!” He doesn’t hear it. In his mind, when he gets back from a Mayberry Days event and it’s time to hang up the coat and put away the scissors, that’s it. He’s back to being regular old Allan Newsome, a 54-year-old Huntsville man with a mustache that he’s had since high school, an information technology guy at Redstone Arsenal who happens to run a couple of personal websites on the side, not a barbershop.
