Matthew Vassar made it to the Poughkeepsie are with his parents after arriving from England at the age of 4. His Dad and older brother were all about their brewing business, which Matthew wanted no part of, so his mom (at the old age of 15) helped him to defy his father and he ran away, to Newburgh. After learning a trade and earning money for a few years, he made it back to Poughkeepsie, where he decided it was time to join his Dad and brother in the family brewing business, only to have it burn down shortly after he rejoined the family.

The Michigan Town Named After the Founder of an All-Girls School

East of Saginaw and a tad northeast of Frankenmuth is the town of Vassar in Tuscola County. According to USGenNet, Vassar s beginnings kicked off on March 1, 1849, when James Edmunds, Joseph Grovenor, Townsend North, and James Saunders ended up here while searching for a place to create their own city. But what to name this new community? It easily could ve been named after one of those four men, but they decided to dub the town Vassar after James Edmunds Uncle Matthew.  Proud of his uncle for many reasons, Edmunds was more than pleased to name his new town after him. Why name it after Matthew Vassar?

Moms Group Gives S D Gov Kristi Noem Its Mother of Influence Award

13 Dec 2020 South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was in Washington, DC,  this past weekend with her husband, son, two daughters, and son-in-law, but the trip wasn’t related to politics or tourism. Noem was in town to accept Moms for America’s Mother of Influence award. Kimberly Fletcher, founder and president of the non-profit, pro-family Christian organization cited Noem’s leadership in 2020 as the country faced the coronavirus pandemic. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was given the Moms of America’s Mothers of Influence award on Sunday in Washington, DC. (Penny Starr/Breitbart News) “She speaks truth,” Fletcher said in her introduction of Noem. “She actually follows the science that they keep telling us we should follow and she institutes policies that are going to promote freedom and … to actually fix problems instead of creating them.”
