Runners at Juneau s Torch Run on Saturday. Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Local law enforcement officers joined athletes and others to participate in the Juneau Law Enforcement Torch Run this past Saturday.
Through online fundraising and in-person donations, almost $6,000 was raised.
The money benefits Juneau Special Olympics athletes, including the four Juneau bowlers who will be representing Alaska in the national games next summer. In an interview with News of the North, Lt. Matt Dobson of the Alaska State Troopers said the money helps with lane rentals and other costs associated with training.

The event was held to honor officers who have fallen in the line of duty. President of Juneau s chapter of the Alaska Peace Officers Association and Juneau Police Department officer Kirt Stage-Harvey began the ceremony and Pastor Sam Dalin delivered an opening prayer. Lt. Matt Dobson of the Alaska State Troopers read the names of fallen Southeast Alaska law enforcement officers. Deputy chief of JPD, David Campbell, also made remarks.
