Germany s Francesco Friedrich continued to make history on the final day of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup after his team broke the four-man bobsleigh track record in St Moritz in Switzerland.
Friedrich yesterday set a new record for World Cup wins after victory in the two-man event and after winning today, now has 48 wins to his name.
He surpassed the previous record holder, the retired women s driver Sandra Kiriasis, also of Germany.
His new track record was set in the second run, with the new best being a time of 1min 04.75sec.
Friedrich and his team of Martin Grothkopp, Alexander Schüller and Thorsten Margis, held off a strong Austrian side piloted by Benjamin Maier, to win another gold medal.
Sigulda to host back-to-back Women’s Monobob World Series events Monday, 14 December 2020
Sigulda is set to host back-to-back International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Women’s Monobob World Series competitions.
Austria’s Katrin Beierl currently leads the series standings after she finished third at the opening two events at Winterberg and Innsbruck.
Beierl tops the standings on 204 points.
She is followed by Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler and Romania’s Andreea Grecu, who boast 188 and 184 points respectively after solid results at the first two events.
Fourth place in the standings is shared between the winners of the opening two races.
Russia’s Nadezhda Sergeeva topped the podium in Winterberg, but was absent from the subsequent competition in Austria won by Australia’s Breeana Walker.
