Cairo: Veteran Egyptian journalist Mokram Mohammed, a vociferous critic of the Muslim Brotherhood, has died in a hospital in Cairo, his family said. He was 85.
Mohammed was the elected head of the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists several times. In 2017, he became the chief of Egypt’s media regulator, the Supreme Council for Media, a post he held until June 2020.
The Egyptian government mourned Mohammed, who journalistic career spanned around six decades. “We have lost one of the Egyptian press landmarks, who devoted his pen during his long, dedicated career to defending the nation’s causes with all sincerity,” the government said in a statement. “With his pen, he contributed to society’s enlightenment against a lot of misleading fallacies,” it added.
Dubai: Veteran Egyptian actress Ahlam Al Greetly passed away at the age of 73 from a heart attack after returning home from filming, local media reported.
Al Greetly is most known for her roles in Saa’a wi Nos (2012), Al Futua (2020) and One Thousand and One Nights (1985).
The actress was born on February 20, 1948, and is of Circassian origins.
Al Greetly died hours apart from the Egyptian actor Youssef Shaaban, who passed away from coronavirus in a hospital in Giza.
Born in Cairo on July 16, 1931, Shaaban graduated from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts, where he studied acting.
The 89-year-old actor began his career on stage before attracting the attention of directors of films and television series, who cast him in important roles starting in the 1960s. Meanwhile, he also worked on numerous radio programmes and series.

Born in Cairo on July 16, 1931, Shaaban graduated from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts, where he studied acting.
The 89-year-old actor began his career on the stages of theatre before attracting the attention of directors of films and television series, who cast him in important roles starting in the 1960s. Meanwhile, he also worked on numerous radio programmes and series.
Though he was more present in theatre at the beginning of his career, Shaaban kept returning to stage over the decades, starring in plays such as The Bride is Getting Mad (1980) by Samir El Asfory, One Hundred Good Evenings (1989) by El Said Radi and Conquest Gate (2014) by Fahmi El Kholi, among others.
Dubai: Veteran Egyptian actor Ezzat Al Alaili died on Friday at the age of 86, his family announced.
Ashraf Zaki, the head of the Actors Syndicate, said funeral prayers would be held after afternoon prayers from a 6 October mosque.
Al Alaili’s latest public appearance was in the 36th edition of the Alexandrian Mediterranean Film Festival last November, where the festival was held to honour the prominent actor.
He has starred in over 300 films, TV series, and theatre plays since the 1960s.
Al Alaili’s legacy includes many classic films like El Tareiq Ela Eilat (The Road to Eilat) and El Toot Wi El-Nabbout (The Berries and the Cudgel), as well as many appearances in Youssef Chahine’s films including Al-Ard (The Land) where he played a leading role.
