Attempts for Fazl s technical knockout: Move intended to dent his high-profile political role

National February 2, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Four former veteran leaders of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), who have recently been expelled from the party, are attempting to knock out party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on technical grounds in a bid to overwhelm him and snatch political power from his tight control. But even if such an effort meets with success, will it have an impact on the stature and standing of Fazlur Rehman within his party, in the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) or on the overall political horizon? Will the moves by the dissenters affect his hold on the JUI-F? If the past is any guide, the answer to these questions would be in the negative. During General Ziaul Haq’s martial law, the late Maulana Samiul Haq had broken away from the JUI and founded his own faction. However, Fazlur Rehman had maintained his status as the undisputed chief of the party and Samiul Haq’s group was never able to show any worthwhile electoral performance.

Pakistan s Islamic Clerics Debate Normalization Of Relations With Israel

Pakistan s Islamic Clerics Debate Normalization Of Relations With Israel January 13, 2021 | By Tufail Ahmad Pakistan is once again engaged in an intellectual debate about its religious identity. The issue is whether to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, which, seen as the Jewish state, Pakistanis deem ideologically incompatible with the Islamic State of Pakistan. Pakistanis view their country as the Medina-e-Saani, the second Medina, after the holy city of Medina, which was the first Islamic state established by Prophet Muhammad after he proclaimed Islam. Image courtesy of Tribune.com.pk Although this debate has been a recurring theme in Pakistan s intellectual life, it re-emerged recently after several Islamic countries – the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco – decided to normalize relations with Israel. In December 2020, Pakistan s top-ranking Islamic scholar, Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, reignited this debate by publicly advocating normalization with Israel.

Islamic Cleric: The Quran proves that Eretz Israel belongs to the Jews

“The Quran clearly declares that Eretz Israel belongs to the Jews,” a leading member of Pakistan’s National Assembly Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani told the camera. “The house of God was built for the children of Israel and not for the Palestinians.” This dramatic declaration was released by the spiritual leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (Community of Islamic Clerics) last Shabbat in Pakistan. The person who alerted me to the turn of events in Pakistan was Noor Dahri, a Pakistani living in the United Kingdom and founder and executive director of Islamic Counterterrorism Theology (ITCT). A few hours after Dahri tweeted Sherani’s statement, we spoke on the phone.
