An investigator is heading to the scene of a large house fire in Hunterville.
A large fire has torn through a central North Island house, forcing the closure of State Highway 1. Firefighters were called to battle a blaze in Hunterville at 2.45am on Thursday, which destroyed a home on Milne St, SH1. Crews from Hunterville, Marton, Mangaweka and Whanganui worked to control the fire as police cordoned off the area to traffic. Fire and Emergency spokesman Murray Dunbar said the occupants were out of the home.

One person has been flown to hospital after an early-morning crash on State Highway 1. Emergency services were called to SH1, near Paradise Valley Rd, 17 kilometres north of Waiouru, after a car crashed at 3.30am on Friday. A police spokesman said two people were injured, but initial reports were unclear on how badly. Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Murray Dunbar said one of the injured people was trapped in the wrecked vehicle and was flown to hospital by a rescue helicopter after firefighters managed to get them out.
