Outdoor-only Texas barbecue restaurant opening on 6th Avenue in Tacoma

Apr. 6 Sidle by the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pine Street in Tacoma come May to discover a fresh sight next door to Engine House No. 9: a walk-up window slinging smoked meats and cold beers under the name BK s Barbecue.
Focused on the Central Texas style, brisket seasoned traditionally with salt and pepper will anchor the menu at BK s Barbecue, accompanied by baby-back ribs, pork butt, chicken quarters and hot links. The smokers will live inside the kitchen, per health department regulations, but chef Kyle Campisi insists his business partner is up to the challenge.

As the first year of pandemic restrictions flows into a second, those born in spring approach their second birthdays celebrated without gathering with friends and family for a party. They deserve cake. We all deserve cake.
At the same time, perhaps coincidentally, Seattle-area pastry chefs looking to turn their hobby into a profession or their job into their own small business see the need for more cake. Since the beginning of the pandemic, these five shops started serving impressive, artistic, delicious cakes of all types and shapes in every corner of the city – and for ordering online.
