Former Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary testified Friday that he did not inform Mayor Lovely Warren that officers suffocated Daniel Prude, and that it never occurred to him that the circumstances of his death were something the public needed to know. Singletary went on to say that he never had a conversation about publicly releasing information about Prude’s death with Warren or anyone in her administration, and that she reacted with horror and fury when she finally watched video footage of Prude s arrest for the first time in early August. She kept saying, What I saw in the video was murder, Singletary said.

Former Rochester Police Chief La Ron Singletary will give his public testimony about the handling of the Daniel Prude case on Friday morning at 9:30.
He will give a deposition to the City Council s Independent Investigation Committee, and it will be streamed live on the City Council YouTube and Facebook pages.
Singletary was fired by Mayor Lovely Warren in September, soon after the public release of the police video of Prude being restrained last March.
Warren alleged she wasn t adequately informed about the case, while Singletary maintained he did notify her.
Singletary is suing the City over his firing, claiming Warren asked him to withhold truthful information.

La’Ron Singletary, who was fired from the Rochester Police Department (RPD) in September shortly after announcing his plans to retire, on Wednesday filed a notice of claim with the Monroe Court Clerk’s office announcing his intention to sue Mayor Lovely Warren and the city for defamation of character, the creation of a hostile work environment and his wrongful and retaliatory termination, according to the documents.
