Former Arizona Cardinals QB John Skelton runs for Tempe City Council

A former Arizona Cardinals quarterback announced Wednesday that he is running for the Tempe City Council. John Skelton, who the Cardinals drafted out of Fordham in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft, announced his candidacy in a video on social media. In the video, Skelton said he decided to make his home in Tempe after his NFL playing days were through. He started 17 games  over three seasons with the Cardinals, who are headquartered in Tempe, and finished with an 8-9 record. He had 15 touchdown passes and 25 interceptions in those three seasons in Arizona. A Texas native, Skelton also spent time with the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals in his career, but he only saw playing time with the Cardinals.

Former Arizona Cardinals G Mike Iupati Retires - Sports Illustrated Arizona Cardinals News, Analysis and More

Feb 22, 2021 Former Arizona Cardinals guard Mike Iupati is retiring from the NFL, according to the Spokesman-Review. He played 11 seasons, four of which were in the Valley.  “My body was telling me it was time to close the door,” he said in the article published by Peter Harriman.  Iupati signed a five-year contract with the Cardinals ahead of the 2015 season. At left guard, he started in 13 regular-season games and two playoff games as Arizona went 13-3 that year. He earned a Pro Bowl and All-Pro second-team nod in his first campaign with the team.  Pro Football Focus graded him at 80.3 in 2015, as he had just two flags and allowed three sacks in 812 offensive snaps.
