ERIE, Pa. (AP) James Minier, 27, is like a lot of young men his age.
He likes to play video games and watch sports on television, especially hockey and mixed martial arts. He likes a good laugh and enjoys his mom’s cooking, especially bacon macaroni and cheese.
And his work is important to him.
His boss, Ashleigh Walters, CEO of Onex Inc., might have guessed that part. From the window of her office at 917 Bacon St., in Erie, she often sees him running the final leg of his trip into work after his mom drops him off outside.

Erie Arts & Culture received a grant from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art to provide opportunities for Erie artists from Muslim countries so they may gain wider recognition here.
The grant funded school-based residencies, public performances and digital media training for 12 artists, some of whom came to Erie as refugees.
Kelly Armor, Erie Arts & Culture s folklorist in residence, is quick to share news of the grant.
“Especially during COVID, when so much has been canceled, you can still visit these shops, see the art, and support a local business while literally tasting the bounty of Erie’s new-American cultures,” she said.

Meg Loncharic: Erie dance student chosen as model for national costume catalog

An Erie Dance Conservatory student, 5-year-old
Viviana Pribonic, was chosen to be a costume model for the national dance costume catalog Curtain Call Costumes 2021.
Her mother,
Deena Pribonic, who is also an instructor at Erie Dance Conservatory, had a friend who works for Curtain Call Costumes and thought Viviana would make a great candidate, according to information provided by Erie Dance Conservatory. So, mother and daughter traveled five hours to York on three different occasions in January, February and June 2020 for photo shoots.
Sarah Purvis, the dance school’s artistic director, said that Viviana was a natural. She was not only featured throughout the catalog, but also as one of the dancers on the cover.
