Spanish Hairdresser Develops An Innovative Hair Printing Technique And Creates Delicate Baroque-Inspired Hairstyles Interview With Artist Pro member
Spanish stylist and contemporary hairdresser Alexis Ferrer has been known for creating otherworldly hairstyles during his career of over 20 years, but he has changed the fashion trends with his innovative technique of vibrant photographic printing on human hair, which has never been used before. It took years to develop until it opened a possibility to recreate complex and precise colorful designs and graphically tell a story on hair without having to dye it or use stencils.
Ferrer showcased his technique in his most recent renowned collection called La Favorite that combines his passion for technology, art, and nature in delicate and romantic hairstyles. The collection was inspired by the beautiful natural patterns of “the best fabrics for the French bourgeoisie during the XVIII century.”

The artist has been creating art out of human hair for the past four years
Artist Midhun RR was knee deep in a portrait of APJ Abdul Kalam made using human hair, last week. “The preparation time of the hair for a portrait is almost three days. I could finish the setting in two hours,” says the 26-year-old who works as an assistant professor at McGan’s Ooty School of Architecture, Udhagamandalam.
Midhun has been working with human hair for the past four years. He was introduced to the form while he was interning with an organisation called Sacred Groves in Puducherry. “I undertook a project of making mud walls that required a natural fibre as one of the building materials. I chose human hair collected from local salons. There was a lot of it leftover after completing this project and my friends suggested that I create something out of it. I checked online for references, but failed to find any and decided to try it out myself.”
