World War-1: Remembering India’s hero in the 1918 battle of Haifa © Provided by The Times of India A hundred and six years ago, on July 28, 1914, World War-1 broke out, and lasted over four years. One battle, the outcome of which had an important role in hastening the end of the war, was the Battle of Haifa that took place on September 23, 1918. Less than two months after that conflict, on November 11, 1918, World War-1 came to an end. For showing exemplary courage during the battle, Colonel Bahadur Singh of Jodhpur Lancers received the Order Of British India (OBI) and Indian Distinguished Services Medal.

The Meghna is formed by the confluence of multiple fast-flowing streams, which descend into the plains of Bangladesh, that barely rise above the sea level, from the rolling hills of eastern India — the area which receives the largest monsoon precipitation in the world.
