“I was this awkward-looking kid, sitting and pouting on the beach,” Lange said.
Lange eventually learned to swim, and she moved up from being just a camper to a councilor at Camp Laurel before leaving in 2016.
Lange is one of many in the Girl Scout community in Southeastern Connecticut trying to make sure future girls still have those memories and experiences she’s so thankful for.
Last week, the Girl Scouts of Connecticut made the decision to sell Camp Laurel, the organization’s only resident camp in the state and move that program to Camp Yankee Trails in Tolland. The camp in Tolland needs improvements, and Melissa Perkins, the chief marketing revenue officer for the Girl Scouts of Connecticut, said the Camp Laurel would not be sold until Camp Yankee Trails is fully upgraded.
