Update Given On Roads Affected By November Storm In Alexander County

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has provided an update on the roads closed in Alexander County due to flooding which occurred during the November 12, 2020, Tropical Storm. These are the most recent updates.
The following projects are complete and the roads are open. Millersville Road at NC Highway 16 South, which was a total roadway washout at bridge pipe location. Nester Road at Millersville Road, which was a total roadway washout at bridge location. Smith Grove Church Road, which was a total washout of a 48” maintenance pipe.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has provided an update on the roads that are or were at one time closed due to flooding on November 12 in Alexander County. According to Jason Willis, Staff Maintenance Engineer for Division 12, the total damage is estimated at $5.7 million. Millersville Road at N.C. Highway 16 South and Nester Road at Millersville Road both reopened on December 18.
Alexander Bridge #3 on Cheatham Ford Road which was washed out at bridge end bent is currently under contract for bridge replacement; the estimated completion date is December 2021. 7858 Cheatham Ford Road, which is closed at the bridge pipe location is currently under contract for pipe replacement.
